Cyan Pen is an artistic experiment of the [not-quite] Mainer, me, Colin Penley.
A recovering high school history and Mandarin teacher, I have reconnected with my artistic roots as I have settled into my new lack-of-position.
Lack of darkroom access/enlarger limited my ability to go back to printing silver gelatin, so I started to explore cyanotype and other non-darkroom photographic processes. As I have explored, I have returned to some practices of stitching, first as a method of attaching papers and then as a decorative form itself. Each piece I make builds on what I have created and my next interest.
My work has been included in shows at
- The Image Flow (7th Annual Alternative Process Photography Exhibition)
- Lights Out Gallery (Little Spark)
- Munka Studio (Reveals, Yellow, The Winter Night, and Nightmares),
- McLaughlin Garden
- Analog Forever online exhibition (Palimpsest).
